FAQ
1. What does it mean to have Alzheimer’s Certification?
There are a number of things that set us apart from a non-Alzheimer’s Certified facility. First, our caregivers are trained extensively in providing effective dementia care to our residents. Our continuing education program ensures that our caregivers have the latest information on best practices for dementia care and how it apples to our residents.
Second, we provide activities addressing cognitive,
recreational, and activity of daily living (ADL) needs throughout the day. All of these activities are geared for those suffering from progressive memory loss. By taking in to account past life experiences and activities as well as cognition level, we are able to provide an activity program that builds on each resident’s individual skill level.

2. How do you dispense medications?
We supervise all of our residents’ medication regimens, as ordered by their physician. Physician’s orders are required for all medications, including over the counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements (this includes eye drops/gel, nasal sprays, and/or medicated creams).
3. My family member requires a special diet. Are you able to provide this?
We are able to provide meals designed for residents with a variety of special needs, including diabetes care, dental and swallowing issues, and food allergies. As with any other medical regimen, a physician’s order is required for a special diet.
4. Do you provide transportation?
All of our resources are focused on caring for our residents inside the home. For this reason we do not provide transportation. We ask that our residents’ families handle transportation to and from appointments.
5. What about outings?
Often, those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease have a difficult time orienting themselves in unfamiliar environments. This confusion can cause great anxiety and behavioral issues that can be detrimental. We have found that group outings do not contribute to our residents’ well being.
6. Do you have visiting hours?
No, we encourage friends and family to visit as often as they wish. However, we do ask that you keep in mind your family member’s individual eating and sleeping schedule, and any particular time of day when they may be known to experience more anxiety.
7. What are your rates?
Our rates are largely determined by the level of care a resident requires. This level of care is determined by an assessment, physician’s notes, and discussion with family. We work diligently to keep our monthly rates affordable. Please call us to discuss the level of care your loved one may need.
What do your rates include?
It is easier to list the items not included in our monthly fee. Some of these are: medications, incontinence supplies, dietary supplements, and personal toiletry items.
Unlike many other facilities, we do not charge extra fees for laundry, incontinence management, most special dietary needs, or extra housekeeping services.
8. I would love to take a tour; can I drop in when I have time?
We prefer to give tours by appointment only. Keep in mind House at Cedar Ridge is a true home to our residents, where they have comfortable routines and see familiar faces. Some residents have difficulty with changes in their routine. For these reasons, we ask that you contact us to set up a tour time. We will be happy to show you around!
